I can't wait. WooHoo!!!!! Turkeybater err masterturkey err Turkeymasterbater err, oh heck!! Lloyd!!! I'll get with you. I'm headed out on opening day to my 49 north spot with a friend and probably be up at Huckleberry that weekend. A buddy of mine drew a huckleberry spring bear tag so I was gonna hunt/scout for bear sign with him. After that i'll get a hold of you. Not sure when/if I'll do a weekend camping trip it kind of depends on the weather. I'll surely let you know.
I'M GETTING STOKED!!!!!! __________________

LOL! Hey Mark!! I had to pre-select days that I will be going (weather allowing of course), and i'm holding off from the season opener and plan on getting out April 27th and 29th.
I have 8 more days marked for May, and two of those are weekend days on the 15th and 22nd. The others are during the week. I will give you those days as well. I'm hoping we can get a hunt in together at least once. Will play it by ear for now.
Let me know how you guys do for both turkey and bear. Rory and I haven't been up to scout, but I saw 3 bears up there last year. 2 of them up by the bridge. Good luck!! Looking forward to hearing from you. __________________

And we get started with a BANG!!!
A friend of mine got this bird at 6:45 this morning. This is his first one! He had two come in on him, and his words to me... "It was freaking awesome!" 4 3/4" beard, 1 shot.
Way to go Paul! Now get your butt in here and create an account!

Second turkey posted for a friend's friend in our neighboring state of Northern Idaho. This bird weighed in at 25#'s, and sported an 8 3/4" beard. Nice Tom!
Way to go Jesse & Jesse Jr. Snyder!!

Was informed yesterday that Jesse filled his second tag on Monday with this nice bird!! Not sure of the stats with this one yet, but will add it once I get it.
Way to go AGAIN Jesse!

Well, doesn't look like I will be out turkey hunting until May. Probably not until at least the 6th or 7th, maybe even later than that. Have a surgery to do soon which will require a few days recovery. ACK!!
Anyway, has anyone else been out lately? I know the weather has turned on us with the rain/wind and cooler temps which makes it even harder to tag a bird, but let us know how it went even if you haven't gotten a bird yet. __________________

I haven't been this year yet, been away on business most of April and May but will be home for the last 2 weekends of the season. I've only been turkey hunting once and didn't see or hear anything. I sure would like to get out in the woods. If any of you vets want to help out a rookie, it sure would be appreciated! I'd LOVE to learn more about calling birds in. Seems a little complicated and you can really screw it up if you're not careful. |

Hey NCNewbie, good to hear from you! It turns out I have to skip this season altogether. Just means I will have to make it up with some bass fishing in June and coyotes in September.
I'm not a turkey hunting expert, but I do ok. I may be able to give you some calling tips if you're interested? Shoot me an email at spokanesportsman@comcast.net (don't click email address) and if you have time before you get out again maybe you could stop by for a few and I can share with you what i've learned. Just let me know __________________

Ok, so I lied! Luck was on my side and I got out today for the first time this season. Called in this tom at about 30 yards. Good times!
Didn't get a weight on this bird, but he has an 8 1/2" beard. Almost had a second bird an hour later, but got outsmarted. Took a through the sticks shot at about 40-45 yards once he busted me, and then threw another round as he took flight. I lost that battle, but the good news is I get to go again! lol

Anyone else been out? Got out yesterday and spent the day being outwitted by an older bird! Same one that got the best of me last time. Really nice bird, guessing 4-5 years old. Had him struttin and drummin several times but would not come within range. Don't know if i'll get out again but that's the one i'm after if I do. Saw 3 bears, and got a pic of this nice one. I need to start puting in for a spring tag. I sat and watched him/her from about 100 yards or so and could have shot him many times over.

I went out a few times during the season, but got skunked. I need to find a better place to go for the spring. My friend's place near Deer Park is great in the fall for hens, but sucks in the spring for toms since they all hang out on the surrounding properties. I had one tom on the hook at the property border but had way too much brush to go through. He got bored and took off as I was just making it through the other side and he never looked back.
Very nice bear btw. Too bad we have to wait till at least August 14th this year.

Sounds like that Tom was hung up pretty good. Got one bird for the price of two this year! lol Was only able to get out twice. Doing some fishing now, and going to set my mind back to coyotes in the fall sometime. Got some new "snow camo" for Christmas and it didn't snow! At least not enough for that camo. lol __________________
