Has anyone been there for carp since they killed off sprague and cow? This used to be one of my favorite honey holes for carp shooting? Just curiouse if there are any carp left.

Quite a few years back (mid-late 90's), I tried fishing cow lake for the first time and caught nothing. I could see trout just hovering off the bottom almost motionless, and they wouldn't bite on anything nor did they move much... it was really strange.

Back in the day before they poisoned out sprague lake, it was my favorite lake to fish in. One of the best (if not THE best) catfishing lakes in this state. Personally I think they should have left the lake alone, but that's just my opinion. The carp in that lake were so thick in areas you could almost walk across them. lol!

It was just one of those lakes that you could go to and KNOW you were going to catch fish all day long. I miss it.

Don't think either lake has much (if any) of a carp population anymore, but I don't know for sure off hand, it's been a few years since i've fished it.

LOL, ok I have to tell this story.... last year my father-in-law and I pulled an all nighter out there (Rock Lake) for crawdad and crappie, well we didnt do very good and my boat is NOT comfortable to sleep in to say the least. We stayed at the north end all night and waited for first light, then headed south towards the launch when we could see, trolling as we went. we got to within 400 yards or so of the launch about 9 am, both tired and ready to pack it in, not having had much luck, I decided to turn around and hit a spot that normally produces something as a hail marry........then it happened, my pole was almost jerked out of my hands and my line was running out like crazy, so I shut off the troller and started fighting this brute, Im not a real trophy fisherman so a big fish to me is in the 5 lb range, and this one was bigger, I had finally hooked one of the big browns I knew was in here, a flash of coppepr brown 30 yards out boiling in the water confirmed it, my heart was pounding my father-in-law had the net ready, It ran line out of my Abu Garcia levelwind several times, each time I tightened the drag enough to gain leverage over the fish I was sure would be my largest trout ever..............
BUT THEN  we finally got him up and it was a 13 lb carp.........on a six blade troller and wedding ring tipped with worm...... I was disgusted at first untill I realized trout or not this thing fought as hard as any other fish Id hooked. I have never caught a carp on anything other than light tackle and doughballs or a Bow, it was a first for me, and I did take a picture to add to the books.  I also didnt realize he had broken the drag on the reel untill the next time I went Pike fishing, but thats another story LOL>

That's a great story Zeuki. lol!
I have a similiar story though I was bank fishing for small mouth bass on Roosevelt Lake.

I was casting a Mepps Black Fury when I noticed a monster carp slowly swimming my way just a few feet off shore. Thinking it was a long shot indeed, I figured what the hell and dropped my lure down right in front of his nose. To my surprise he sucked it up like a kirby vacuum cleaner, and the fight was on!!

After about thirty minutes of a relentless fight, he finally tuckered and I got him to shore before releasing him. Didn't have a scale, but i've caught a few carp in my days and he had to be pushing 15 pounds give or take.

They may be a garbage fish, but they sure are fun to catch! lol!
