I don't have it in me to write much, but I'll post my blog link for the stories.  Deer season was interesting this fall so far.  I am doing archery this year, so I just finished the early season this year and didn't get anything.  Plenty of opportunities, but I think I need some extra practice with the bow.  It just comes down to the shot.  I spent the whole season hunting in a couple different places.  Could have had a beautiful 8pt whitetail in St John but we had bad luck and made crappy use of opportunity.  I also hunted up at my friend's place in Chatteroy and my buddy ended up with a young 4pt buck and I almost had a doe.  I plan to go back for a buck in the late season.  I really wasn't focusing on myself though.  I wanted to make sure my father had his doe and my buddy got his deer since his wife just had a baby the other day.  I will have plenty of opportunity to cash in in the late fall during the peak of the rut.

Here is the link to the story of hunting in St. John.: http://www.theboettchers.com/2009/09/weekend-hunting-trip/

As for hunting on my friend's place.  basically, we pushed deer back and forth across the property and between properties.  It gook finding good spots and sitting there till something came up.  We had a few chances and couldn't capitalize on them.  Some due to using the radio at just the wrong time, and some due to poor shots with the bows...and some yet that were due to long shots across open areas we couldn't possibly cross cause the deer were sitting there staring at us.  In any case, all I can say is I hate fawns.  They run interference for their mothers and I don't like taking a doe that has a fawn.

At least I can always expect them to come back sometime that day or the next.  I just hope the nice 10pt buck that's hanging around decides to show up during the rut.  I might also go after one of those huge mulies I saw in the Huckleberry range while bear hunting.  We went during deer season, but they were 130yds away and already spooked.  I couldn't get around the hill in time to catch them as they came through.  I think there were 6 big bucks all together, only a couple of which were legal.

Wish me luck.  Anyone else bow hunting this year?

A buddy of mine got this nice 4pt yesterday (modern firearm). 19" spread, 200+ lbs. Nice buck!
Sorry about the picture, it's a little fuzzy. Way to go Jerry!

I shot my first deer this season, a nice 4X4!  He was about 70 yards out and dropped right where he stood with 1 shot from my Remington 700 in .270 Win.  The beauty is not only that it was my first deer but that it was also with my own handload.  47 grains of H4831SC with a Hornady 140 soft point and Winchester Large Rifle Primer!  Boy was I psyched!  Now to see what I can do about those darned Coyotes!
