Little Pend Oreille Chain Lakes...again

Spent 5 days last over a long week end again this time camped in the CNF campground on the south shore of Gillette...very nice. We had a place to shore the boat so as not to have to launch and retrieve it every day. Our double site was close to the restrooms, water and the lake shore. It doesn't get any better than that.! While pleasure cruising the lakes we saw a moose but couldn't quite get maneuvered for a good photo but we did score an excellent photo of a beaver in the narrows between Thomas and Gillette. A variety of waterfowl, Bald Eagles and other birds and small animals around made for an enjoyable outing. Skunks and bears were missing...what a pity. Sniffle.

Forum: Camping / Hiking Topics

While on our trip for some camping, fishing, and pleasure boating, my son-in-law caught a 2# LM while bottom fishing for trout from the south shore on Gillette with a cheesy marshmallow and night crawler aimed at trout. And he caught one other smaller LM...same scenario.

Forum: Bass Fishing

Spent 5 days on a camping, fishing and pleasure boat outing at Gillette, Thomas, Heritage, and Sherry Lakes. Fishing was fair once we established the hot spots mostly in Thomas just off the docks along the north east side, across the north west corner and south for 200 yards. Most were caught and released with a few bigger keepers plus several smaller fish gut hooked and/or bleeding. Most were caught trolling wedding rings and spinners I build tipped with night crawlers, pink maggots, or streamer flies (Tied by Ron Conti of Calgary, AB) tipped with pink maggots. Our usual spot for trout is Lake Sherry but the PWC types were running hot and heavy and fishing there was not good at all.

My son-in-law and I went partners on a 19' 1991 BlueWater 4.3 Mercruiser and had a good time slow-cruising the lakes with the family...it can get up and move too! We used it for trolling and thought it a bit fast even at idle but that did not seem to be problem for the fish...plenty of strikes in the hot spots when the bite was on.

Our next and final big outing for the year will probably be at Curlew in Sept. with several smaller outings between now and the season closure.

Forum: Trout Fishing

Chapman and Fish Lakes

Last week the missus and I worked Chapman all day for nada. Quite disturbing when others were catching So today, we tried Fish lake. Supposedly some big Tiger Trout in there. We marked quite a few big fish but the Spiny Ray fish have taken over...the hit anything we threw in the water although my wife did catch one small Tiger of about 9 inches.
I created a monster taking her fishing...she wants to go all the time now so Friday it's back to Chapman and try to remove the "skunk".
Looks like typical warm weather fishing...trout slow down and the others pick up.

Forum: Trout Fishing

Phenominal Day!!

Spent a day yesterday tossing buzz baits, scum frogs, and spinners.
Couldn't keep em off my line! Didn't count how many I caught, but i'd say at least 75, and that's no b.s.

All largemouth, and the biggest I got on the boat was 4 pounds. All released. Had a couple bigger than that but they shook loose.

Forum: Bass Fishing
